Hitting Fifty is a huge milestone for some people. I know because I remember vividly thinking about it a lot in my late 40s. I was thinking all sorts of crazy things that might come along with it.
But to be honest I am loving life after 50. Sure I’ve had a few challenges but when I sit down and think about it, they’re all just relevant to the season of life I’m in. As were the challenges I faced and had to overcome in my teens,20s,30s and 40s.
Challenges and fears are all part of life, and how we approach and face them, and get though them, is what molds us as individuals and what gives us some life experience that we can, if we choose, embrace and pass on to help others.
Hopefully I can help you embrace your 50s and let you into a few things that have helped me. Then in turn you can choose to help others as you go through your 50s. Which, if your are reading this, is the season of life you are in right now.
Let’s see.
Accepting and Embracing Change
First things first, You’ve reached the grand age of fifty. You’ve had your20s, 30s,and 40s. and you’ve gained so much life experience. Most definitely, like me, you’ve had great times filled with fun and lots of laughter and you’ve probably had a few low times too. But that’s ok, because everyone does and you are no different.
You may have had quite a few challenges to. Career changes, directional path changes, relationships good and some not so good and quite possibly some financial challenges too along the way, but please try to accept that right now, at this very moment, you are exactly where you are meant to be.
The first thing in my opinion is to accept all that has gone before in your life, good and bad, and focus on where you are right now. By accepting that now you’ve reached your fifties and entered a new season of life you can now get ready to embrace all that comes your way and all you wish your life to be. Carrying on if you are in a great place, only improving the life you have or wanting and deciding to accept where you are right now and make some changes. What ever they may be. Looking forward to embracing change and most definitely Living your best life.
I know, through real experience, that this may not be easy. There will be lots you will want to look into in order to embrace these changes, and I will focus on as many of these in future posts as I build this website. Helping as many people just like you living your best life in your 50s so please do stay and have a good look around. I’m sure you will find lots of things most benificial to helping you.
The Benefits of Staying Active and Exercising Regularly
Now before I touch on the subject of any form of excercise or activities, I do not have the ability to provide or recommend any personalised health advice or guidance. I think it is extremely important to consult your personal GP or medical practitioner before starting any new exercise in any form or activity undertaking. I believe that everyone’s individual health and fitness needs are unique to the individual and I am in no way educated or qualified in or for this.
We should all know that staying active and exercising regularly is benifitial for maintaining a healthy lifestyle at any age. Staying active and healthy physically is also very good for our mental health. I try my best to do this on a daily basis. Sometimes I succeed and sometimes I fail. I am human, just like you, after all. But I do try my best.
In my 50th year I was unfortunate to come down with Bilateral Pneumonia and ended the year with a heart attack. Not my best of years health wise to say the least. But I recovered and I am still here. I made changes to my mindset and lifestyle and ran my first marathon two and a half years later. I will go into these changes that I made later. But seriously, if I can do it so can you.
Discovering New Hobbies and Passions in Later Life and the Oppertunities it can Bring.
We are all searching for a sense fulfillment, joy and purpose are we not? Finding a new hobby can be really good for us. I got back into motorbiking which in turn lead me to meet new like-minded people. I found new roads I could travel down and places i could visit that perhaps I’d never considered before. I re-kindled my love of outdoor wild camping which has brought me so much joy. Living out in the wilds of nature in all elements with friends has been a blast. I’m always searching for new things to do and take part in and so can you.
If you are feeling a bit lonely at times, finding a new hobby like gardening, swimming, rambling or hiking in the great outdoors can lead to meeting so many new and interesting people and bring about great social connections. This is great for our mental and physical well-being and give us a great sense of purpose. This is especially benefitial if you perhaps live alone.
There really is so much out there to discover and so much to learn as well.
The Importance of Maintaining a Positive Attitude and Outlook on Life
In my opinion people who are positive and have a great outlook on life tend to have a better attitude in themselves and to others. Especially those who are negative and pessimistic all the time. I for sure don’t really like to hang around to long in a negative atmosphere. It drains you. It is depressive and It is definitely not good for our mental well-being.
If you are positive it can help you in coping better with life’s challenges that are always going to come and go.
Having a great outlook on life can lead to creating better social relationships and help maintain them which is great and important for our emotional well-being. Positive happy smiley people enjoy being around happy smiley people.
It helps in having lots of fun and brings you joy and fulfillment which is what we’re all after isn’t it?
Building and Maintaining Strong Relationships with Loved Ones.
We should all try to maintain good strong relationships with our loved ones. Especially if you live alone.
Caring, looking after and socialising with our loved ones, sharing and being a part of their lives can bring us so much joy and happiness. That brings about a great sense of purpose in itself. There is nothing like enjoying a party with all your friends and family. Enjoying quality time spent with your loved one is so important for keeping that spark in your life. We love good food shared, dancing into the wee small hours. Going for lovely walks and hikes in nature. Searching and seeking out the next new adventure. It really is what gives us purpose and brings us so much joy.
Conclusion
In conclusion, reaching 50 can be a major milestone, but it really doesn’t need to be a negative experience.
By accepting that where you are right now in life is exactly where you are meant to be and embracing change, staying or becoming active, finding new hobbies, building new or maintaining existing relationships and having a positive attitude and outlook on life, you can definitely look forward to living your best life in your 50s.
Challenges will come and go but how you approach them and get through them is what gives us life experience, it’s what molds us. We can pass these experiences on to others and help them. We can be so inspiring to others.
Remember, focussing on the present moment and trying to go forward making small changes can help you to create and have a wonderful joyous and fulfilling life.
I hope I have helped you in some small way.
